Seeking their first win of the season, the Falcons traveled to The Lawrenceville School Wednesday evening for a match versus the Cardinals of Lawrence High School. Determined for victory the team netted 9 goals and sophomore goaltender Justin Pieron made 35 saves in a 9 – 2 Falcons victory.
The Falcons opened the scoring with a goal by junior defenseman Jon Roman at the 2:05 mark of the first period. Senior forward Ryan Kloby followed that up with a goal approximately five minutes later to give the Falcons an early 2 – 0 lead. The Cardinals would however add a goal of their own at the 10:16 mark to give the Falcons a narrow 2 – 1 lead after one period of play.
Adding two more goals in the second period by Ryan Kloby and senior forward Artie Thompson gave the Falcons a 4 – 1 lead at the second period intermission. Monroe then unloaded 5 goals in the third period to Lawrence’s 1 goal to wrap the game up. Tallying goals in the third period were Artie Thompson (2), Ryan Kloby, Jon Roman and Brandon Domilici.
Adding assists on the night were sophomore defenseman Nick Modugno (3), sophomore forward Frank Stuto (2), freshman forward Stan Monak and Jon Roman (2).
Artie Thompson and Ryan Kloby both finished the game with a hat trick.
With a four point night, Jon Roman surpassed Falcons alumni John Scarpa as the team’s all time leading scorer with 50 points. Scarpa previously held the record with 49 points.
With 3 goals on the night, Artie Thompson surpassed John Scarpa as the team’s all time leading goal scorer with 33 goals. Scarpa previously held the record with 32 goals.
Next, the Falcons take on Middletown North. Friday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. at Gold Coast Arena.
